The Cruel World

Sadly with Social Media benefits comes downsides. A 18 year old named Tyler Clementi took his own life due a cyber bully, Dharun Ravi, who was his own roommate  The occurrence was at Tyler's dorm were he asked Dharun Ravi if he could have the place for the night because of a man he met online. Dharun setup a hidden webcam to spy and stream Tyler and his boyfriend having sex. However, Dharun didn't stop their he sent a tweet to his friends telling him he had saw his friend “making out with a dude,'' and encourage others to watch. Awkward. Tyler then took his life on George Washington Bridge and as a result Dharun was sent to jail for 30 days and 300 hours of community service. The trail went up to 10 years in prison and many said he got off way to easy. The parents of Tyler have built a building in tribute to Tyler to educate and deal with matters and issues like these.

Overall Most Teens use Social Media and think it will become more of a beneficial use than harmful.
Hi this is co- worker...today I have to talk about my ideas and theories about social media and also how I myself use the crap. Owner says I'm moody to which is damn right!! Someone stole my headphones, who the hell steals headphones!! Anyway onto the project!!

This is totally how I feel today!! But I have to do this today cuz its do tomorrow!!

1. How do you use social media in your own life? What purpose does it serve in your life?
I don't use social media that much. I don't how much use for them. So it doesn't serve much of a purpose unless I need get in touch with a family member or a friend. I really don't even see the point in me having one anymore. Even when I first got it it made no sense for me to have it, I don't feel the need to constantly be on and tell people  what I'm up to.

2. What are the benefits of using social media?
There are many benefits of using social media which are getting in touch with family & friends, and meeting new people. Another benefit is that you can here an opinion or want to change something about the world; you can get people on your side and change the world all with a few clicks of the mouse.

3. On the other hand, how can using social media be harmful?
As there are as many benefits there are as many harmful things about social media. Some of the harmful thing are getting hacked, getting fired (because of something you posted), your personal info getting jacked, getting bullied. The worst case scenario is that you end up up kidnapped, dead, or plan to commit suicide. All harmful and all really do happen.

4. Thinking nationally and globally: How do people use social media to achieve social justice? To help others who suffering or are victims to oppression? To help others achieve equality?
I feel like its something that should be used because news travels 100 times faster then normally. Its really a great way to get people on your side and have everyone talking about your cause, so that something even a little something will change. This is a positive for the world of social media.

5. Make a decision and argument and explain the reasoning for your decision: Does social media do more harm than good for our society in the 21st century?
I may not have much need or opinion about social media, but I do think that yeah social media is a good thing to use to stay connected to people and to start a revolution. Reason why I think that is because everyone uses technology and its the best way to get news and everything out to the people.

Bridging the Unknown by other means

Look around the news and report Social Media has done it again. Link Two people who look similar add each other through Facebook not knowing each other. Turns out that they were indeed related from long ago. The Facebook post read: "On Sept. 19, 1982, my very first niece was born and given up for adoption. I know it wasn't an easy decision for my brother to make, but it was the right one for that baby girl. Hope you can take a moment to read this & be thankful for the selfless sacrifice of adoption. I know many families whose hearts are full because of it.''
Abbey Donohue  has found her biological family through the means of social media. Her sister, Paula O'Brien, was extremely shocked and now are reunited at last.

Social can restore lost ties and reunite families again. However, there also a darker side to Social Media does on its own.

OKay..So apparently I'm co-worker and I'm so going to work >:P not fair right?! I came up with the name for the blog..so HA!! Anyway Owner was right we are here to talk about people being what I call stupid on the web even though sometimes I am part of the stupid. People are on the Internet a little to much now and days. I feel like most of the time its not a problem, but if you are constantly checking it then you most likely have a problem and its not your fault. Society today actually calls that we do this because for many reason which most of us choose to ignore.
Reasons:
1) To find out what we like and don't like, to sell the info to advertisement companies
2) To connect people to family, friends & people around the world
3)What is truly private to us and what is not
4) Recent news and issues about Social Media
5) Is it really worth it?

Language Arts?!

Hello All!
It's me(owner) here to update and inform all about current social media issues. My ''co-worker'' and I will be addressing how dangerous the internet has become. I use ''co-worker'' because in reality she probably wont be doing anything... ugh school.. Anyway enough about us it will be all about how to keep you safe from the dangerous digital world(Hahaha if you get that reference)! A little about me Enoch or the Google+ in the corner, I am a senior in high school and hope to attend collage afterwards for my medical degree to become a RN.

1) Social media in my life is personally helpful although I use it rarely. The main purpose social media serves in my life is to connect me with other people and have another means of communication other then the phone. Using this for school or colleges, or talk to friends who are unable to be contacted by other means.

2)Benefits of using social media is to become more socially active and aware of topics occurring around you or the world. Getting updates can be tedious or even annoying if they are simply rants or raves, but it gives a perspective of that individual current state on a topic. People are able to reach common reason or agree with people like many done to band together on issues.

3) Social media has opened a gateway for hackers and bullies to create havoc on the internet. Cyber-bullying has been an issue throughout social media cites and result in causality because not dealt with correctly. Personal information can be exposed for these bullies to obtain and harass the user continuously and anonymously. Sites also require personal information such as birthday, interests, and/or location/address which can result in lost of personal information if hackers can get their hands on it .

4)Social media has been used to achieve social justice all around. Revolts in Egypt and Syria to shooting and natural disasters in America. People can band and communicate faster and stream truthful information to the public by using Social Media.

Vancouver Riot (remember the big deal this caused?)

5) Overall Social Media has benefited mankind but still imposed great risks if not protected correctly. However, because the overall benefit we can gain from social media it out weights the cons. In the 21st century most phones have social media apps and can connect to the internet. With this people can always stay connected one way or another.
